Is imgmarker free?

Yes. Without an account you label 10 images a day. With a free account it is 25 a day, plus 50 credits a month through the API - enough to build a workflow and test it. Beyond that you buy credits or take a plan. One credit is one image.

Who is responsible for labelling an image correctly?

Accepted Answer

You are, without exception. imgmarker applies the label you select and does nothing else: it cannot tell whether an image came from AI, and it never checks or corrects your choice. Whether a label is accurate, complete and sufficient for your purposes remains entirely your responsibility as the person publishing the image. MOVA Empire UG accepts no liability for labels applied through this service, nor for the images themselves or how they are used.

Which images am I allowed to upload?

Images you hold the rights to and that are legal to possess and publish where you are. Depictions of child sexual abuse, terrorist or extremist propaganda and any other material whose distribution is a criminal offence are prohibited without exception. The same applies to images that violate someone else’s personal rights, such as intimate pictures published without consent, and to content you have no licence for. We review uploads to enforce this, block visitors who breach it and report illegal material to the authorities where the law requires us to. If you are unsure whether an image belongs here, do not upload it.

Do you keep my images?

Accepted Answer

No. We delete uploads, results and the database record 60 minutes after processing. Nothing is archived and nothing is backed up. One counting entry stays - date, website or API, label, format, file size, result - because otherwise we could not tell how much the service is used. Plus two one-way values: one for the finished file, one for your address. No filename, no address in the clear, no copy of the image.

Does the image quality suffer?

We re-encode the picture once. For JPEG that costs a small amount of quality you will struggle to see; PNG is lossless and loses nothing. Dimensions never change, because the badge goes inside the existing frame.

Which formats work?

Accepted Answer

JPG, PNG and WEBP, up to 5 MB per file. HEIC, TIFF and raw camera formats do not work yet.

Can I choose where the badge goes?

Any of the four corners. We left out edge and centre positions on purpose, since those cover the subject far more often.

What happens to metadata already in my file?

Existing EXIF and XMP data stays as far as the format allows. imgmarker adds fields rather than replacing them. C2PA Content Credentials are the exception: processing invalidates those, and we tell you before it happens.

Question 9

Does this make me AI Act compliant?

Accepted Answer

We do not warrant that. imgmarker does two technically verifiable things: it draws a visible badge into the image and writes the IPTC field DigitalSourceType into the file. What follows from that legally depends on your role and your content. The machine-readable marking in Article 50(2) addresses providers of AI systems, not their users. The disclosure in Article 50(4) addresses people who publish, but only bites for deep fakes. The regulation does not prescribe what a disclosure has to look like; a badge is one possible way, not the prescribed one. This service is not legal advice.

Question 10

When does the disclosure duty not apply?

The text of the provision has limits. Where content forms part of an evidently artistic, creative, satirical or fictional work, Article 50(4) limits the duty to disclosing the existence of generated content in a manner that does not hamper the display or enjoyment of the work. For AI text on matters of public interest it falls away where the content underwent human review and somebody holds editorial responsibility. The machine-readable marking duty on providers in Article 50(2) does not apply to the extent a system performs an assistive function for standard editing or does not substantially alter the input data. Whether any of these covers you depends on your case - we cannot judge that for you.
